It was a family matter, Chuck Swirsky said of his decision to suddenly resign this week as the Toronto Raptors' television voice to accept a job in Chicago calling Bulls games for WGN Radio.
But it would be wrong to suppose Swirsky and his wife and children, who are from Chicago, wholesale mlb jerseys therefore I think), were unhappy living north of the border.
Swirsky received Canadian citizenship in January, and was preparing to spend many years calling Raptors' games.
He said his family has enjoyed living the Toronto area. His decision to leave is a private matter that he chose not to discuss.
"This isn't about me," Swirsky said. "I'm leaving a comfort zone where I love doing basketball for the Raptors and love the passion and support I've received from the fans. I'm doing what's right for my family, and there comes a point where I've got to listen to my family. They're the priority."
Swirsky said he is taking a pay cut to accept the Chicago job - "leaving money on the table."
Sources say Swirsky was making more than $300,000 a year with the Raptors. When income from his job as host of The Fan 590 afternoon radio show is included, he was earning more than $400,000 a year.
Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, discount nhl jerseys free shipping, the company that owns the Raptors, nhlcheapjerseys Those days were supp, cheap nfl china jerseys, received a call last Thursday from the Bulls asking permission to talk to Swirsky about an opening that had come up.
In a shakeup, the Bulls TV voices Wayne Larrivee and Tom Dore were let go, and Neil Funk promoted from radio to take over the TV job. That left a vacancy in radio.
"One thing led to another," Swirsky said. "And then it became official [on Monday]. The Bulls are a great franchise, but his was all about getting back into a situation and I need to listen to my family."
MLSE chief operating officer Tom Anselmi called Swirsky's departure a "shocker&quot, nfl apparel cheap UBC axes five varsity teams as m; and huge loss for the NBA club and the fans.
"Aside from being a great play-by-play guy, he was a great ambassador, jerseys online from china," Anselmi said.
"He had personal relationships with many of our season-ticket holders, e-mailing them at all times, day and night.
"He was just a whole different breed of play-by-play guy and a terrific person. It will be a loss."
During his 10 years as the Raptors' play-by-play voice, Swirsky invented the victory call: "Get out the salami and cheese, mama. This game is over."
He said the idea came from a fan who sent him a letter.
"He said he couldn't break away to make a sandwich," Swirsky said.
"He was afraid he would miss something. He asked me to let him know when the game was decided. I used it the next game."
Swirsky's other trademark saying is: "Onions, baby onions, chinese nfl jerseys cheap," which signifies a big play.
Swirsky and his family are certainly familiar with Chicago. Swirsky worked for 15 years in radio and television in the city. He met his wife in Chicago, they were married there, and two of three children were born while the family lived in the city. In addition to Chicago, Swirsky worked as sports director of WJR in Detroit before taking the Raptors job.
Swirsky said he will continue to do his Fan 590 show for a few weeks. Between now and Sept. 1,authentic jerseys nhl, when Swirsky begins his new WGN job, the Toronto station will need to find a replacement.
And MLSE will need to find a Raptors TV play-by-play voice.
